Miskolctapolca is one of the most interesting tourist targets in Hungary. The establishment of the Cave Bath was originally a dream of Ferenc Pavai Vajna, the geologist who discovered most of the thermal waters in Hungary using special tools and machines.
The Cave spa is unique in Europe. The Cave spa is the Main attraction of Miskolctapolca.

Where is Miskolctapolca Hungary

Miskolctapolca can be found in the Northern hills of Hungary, near to Miskolc, the third most populated city in Hungary. From Budapest the driving distance is 184km (114 miles) which takes approximately 2 hours. First you drive on to M3 and M30 then turning to road 304 towards Miskolc and finally to Road No 3.

The Cave Bath – Miskolctapolca Cave Bath Hungary

The Cave Bath can be found at the end of the main road in Miskolctapolca, on the left side. The Bath has an outdoor as well as an indoor area, the former is located right behind a beautiful park which is the most convenient for visitors mostly during the summer time. The easiest way to get to the entrance is just at the end of the main road, opposite the parking area, on the left side, behind Hotel Kitty. First we go through the Park and arrive to the entrance and as entering it we quickly get to the outdoor area of the Cave Bath, then we find the main Hall with the restaurant in the inside after which the lockers and changing rooms follow. The Cave Bath can be reached through the lockers and changing rooms. My first impression of the spa water was that it was a little cold, compared to what I was used to experience in other thermal waters in Hungary, however as you advance towards the air becomes quite humid making the water temperature just perfect. Anyway there are other more warmer pools inside the Cave Bath. Yes the Bath is in a real cave! It is a very interesting experience, and frankly there is no point to be afraid because it is not several kilometers long, so you cannot get lost. The whole place can be discovered within half an hour. And it is quite cool. There is enough space for everywhere to feel yourself happy. The floor of the Cave is somewhere made of natural stone, at other places it is tiled.

Parking – Miskolctapolca Cave Bath Hungary

Parking is tricky. First of all if you want to park near the Cave Bath you can’t help paying. At the end of the Main road, it is on the right side where the public parking is the cheapest with the Park machine. Hotels sell parking places for double price. Another option, if you are in a good physical condition and don’t mind to walk for a while, you can check first where is the Spa exactly and how to get there on foot then go backwards several kilometers where you can park the car for free of charge.

Things to do and see in Miskolctapolca – Miskolctapolca Cave bath Hungary

Miskolctapolca is a small settlement. But perhaps because of this, quite enjoyable. There is a nice boating Lake behind the Thermal, which is also very interesting. The area at the left side of the Main road (where we found the Cave bath) is a longish area next to the Spring is a huge green Park, we can walk there and enjoy the nature around us.

Lillafured is a beautiful fairy tale place nearby, just at the other side of Miskolc, as well the Unesco World Heritage site Aggtelek Cave system is also very interesting. Eger is also a very interesting historical town with a fortress and wineries in the Szepasszony (Beautiful wife) valley area.
